Welsh Winter Mountaineering

Welsh Winter Mountaineering

Winter mountaineering is the natural extension to Winter Hillwalking and summer scrambling. So come and learn new skills and enjoy classic routes.

Wales is a hidden gem when it comes to winter mountaineering, the landscape is as dramatic as many places in Scotland, but the walk ins are considerably less. There are several 'classic' days out that given recent years do come into condition for some quite extended periods.

If you are interested in learning some essential winter skills that will help you to develop your winter mountaineering then we can help you to reach your own goals, by showing you a few essential skills and techniques for safe winter mountaineering.

These new skills include:

  • Use of Crampons
  • Use of an Ice Axe
  • Avalanche Assessment
  • Poor Visibility Navigation
  • Emergency shelters
  • This Course takes place in Wales and is very much subject to conditions, whilst we can't make assurances about the conditions. What we can do is offer you a course where we don't take a deposit allowing us to cancel should the conditions mean that it is impossible to run the course. This cancellation only applies to when the weather is to warm so the snow and ice are melting.
